Absolutely. They love to publish "accounts" of JWs bravely flaunting their faith, but in reality, most JWs would sooner avoid any discussion of their beliefs. For instance, the Young People Ask articles frequently blab about some JW girl or boy who reads a bible at lunch, dresses in business casual to school, gives book reports on Bible topics, bring in Creation magazines to Science class, and REFUSE to participate in any un-mandatory school activity. But in reality, every JW I knew including myself, would downplay our religion as much as possible. Most kept their heads down to avoid any attention. And it's mostly the same of JWs of all ages.

Do you think a lot of JWs are ashamed of their beliefs?
by I quit! inthe reason i asked this is because i'm going to the funeral of a man who wasn't a jw.
my mother-in-law has lived in the same neighborhood as him for years and knows his wife.
i asked her if she was going attend the funeral service.

Convention invitation distribution campaign - Apr KM
by dozy inhad a quick look at the april km - they are having (yet) another invitation campaign to the convention.
slight twist though , in that any invitations not used are to be taken to the convention & used in informal witnessing.. traditional "convention reminders" insert - usual stuff about "jehovah arranging the program" , get early to the stadium , tip restaurant staff , don't make a scene at hotel reception desks if they have messed up your booking , no peeing in the hotel pool etc.
(i made the last one up , but you get the gist.

I still believed everything, but just found this burden to be too much.
I can respect this. Regardless of whether you are a devout JW or a doubter, it is a burden to have to travel for a convention, especially if you have children. Some can afford it; good for them. But nobody should be ostracized if their budget or health prohibits travel.

In this area jws have to travel 100 miles to the convention. Are they supposed to hand out fliers to the public in that area to travel 100 miles?
They always love to give these "experiences" at the concluding talk about how this "worldly individual" was given a tract and are here now and plan on studying or whatever. Honestly, I want to know exactly how effective is the tract work? I can't think of a single instance where someone was like "wow, I am going to totally waste vacation time and money on this!".
Then again, I can't think of a single person in our territory who has wandered into our Kingdom Hall because somebody left a tract with them. So if they wouldn't bother going to a Kingdom Hall right down the street for an hour, why the devil would they travel 45,000 miles to listen to a 3-day lecture?

I concur. Devastating logic by BetterDaze.
I saw this too the other night. I had to turn it off when they mentioned how because of his mother, he couldn't get treatment. Just lay there and bleed. Thank God for his sister and all the other "wicked" people.

Again. Tacking on 5,000 terms & conditions to the Bible. Then got the nerve to constantly rag on the Pharisees in their publications. Ballsy, I'll give them that.

It might be better to not even have the Internet. April 15th WT
by life is to short inok i was just blown away when i heard this today while driving, at first i thought it was the some old same old but then it went on and it seems like it is on a different level.. the subheading is "guard your heart by exercising self-control.
on page 27 par 17 it says "one way a person could wonder into the foolish course of the "young man in want of heart" is by aimlessly flipping though television channels or surfing the internet.
whether intentionally or not, he might chance upon sexually stimulating scenes.

"Whether intentionally or not, he might chance upon sexually stimulating scenes." ----- Excuse me? How does anyone unintentionally chance upon sexual explicit material on the net? What planet are these idiots on?
As with all technology, the WTBS as usual is light-years behind. They still are recalling back in the early days of the internet where crazy X-rated gynecological pop-ups would appear all over your screen. Anti-pop up technology and more secure browser technology have cut down on this dramatically. These kinds of popups do exist but honestly only attack your computer if you are ACTIVELY surfing porn. But they still love hawking that god-awful "soliloquy" where the dear brother is working on the talk and checks his laptop only to have naughty-bits spring out of nowhere.
Damn you, Netscape Navigator! Damn you!

I was thinking about the Amish the other day and how despite their being very different from typical society, at least they (for the most part) can live isolated in their own community. Whereas Jehovah's Witnesses have to shop, work and go to school completey intermingled with the "evil world". Therefore, villabolo is right when he hinted that in the future, JWs could wind up living in isolated communities riding around in horse-drawn carts.
Suggesting no internet? Really? That is by far the most brilliant suggestion I've ever heard. This must be the Truth. Next, they will suggest you avoid ATMs at all cost because of the snare of loving money.

Did you make very good comments at the Kingdom Hall?
by Iamallcool indid you study beforehand?
alot?
did you only "study" while you are reading the paragraphs during the wt study and still make great comments?.
-
Mr. Falcon
When I commented I always tried to sound original (if that is even possible) by answering in my own words. Also I tried not to comment just for the sake of commenting, but only when it was something I really felt like commenting on. But I admit that sub-consciencously, I was probably trying to sound intelligent and thoughtful. Now I don't even bother.
